Teacher Candidate Expectations EDUC 418a/b March 29
- June 25, 2010
Things to do/know in advance:
• Review the UBC
Practicum Guidelines; the EDUC 418 Evaluation form and this list to know
what you are expected to do.
• Please send your FA a copy of what subjects you will be teaching during
the long practicum, when each starts and finishes, and the unit/theme you will
be preparing for each by January 29th.
• Show your SA your unit outline for the 2 - 4 subjects
that you will be teaching during the first month of practicum during the week
of March 22nd.. (We will review these with you--after
you and your SA have had a chance to consult/revise.) This
is not a full unit plan but, rather, an outline of your big ideas and planned
lesson sequence (e.g., objectives, planned activities, resources needed) for
each of the subjects you'll be starting to teach during the first month. There
are examples of full unit plans on the Resources
page, but these are more detailed than what is expected at this earlier stage.
Example of a unit outline - Core
French 5/6 (.doc). Note that the
early lessons are more fleshed out; later lessons less so, but the overall roadmap
is clear. This is a unit that would last during most of the practicum. Other
subjects, e.g., Art, were only taught twice per week for 4 weeks during the
80% phase.
• Once the practicum is underway, you will work with your SA to refine your unit plans during the first two weeks and then share with SA and FA your completed plans during the week of April 12th.
• Expectations for this practicum mirror those of EDUC
321. Specific information for you, your SA and your FA for each stage of
the practicum are listed on the Stages website.
Please familiarize yourself with these, as well as the final
evaluation criteria, and refer to them regularly.
